The Wynnewood Civic Association recently held a meeting to hear developer Charles Houder talk about plans for the 250-unit luxury apartment complex called the Reserve at Maybrook, writes Cheryl Allison of the Main Line Media News.

According to Allison, Houder’s Haverford Properties, in partnership with Virginia-based Jefferson Apartment Group, has purchased about two-thirds of the 44 acres of Wynnewood’s historic Merriam Estate and will develop the complex under plans approved by Lower Merion Township in 2003.

The heavily wooded property, which includes the 1881 Maybrook mansion, a castle-like structure of 20,000 square feet, lies between Penn Road in Lower Merion and North Wynnewood Avenue in Narberth.

The project if final moving ahead after years of litigation with Narberth Borough over traffic access to North Wynnewood Avenue.

About 80 people attended the meeting, which was a first opportunity for many to hear details of the apartment plans, how other parts of the property will be managed and restored, and a timeline for construction.

The new apartments will be contained in a pair of linked four-story buildings in a portion of the property closest to the Wynnewood Train Station. A four-story parking garage will be located behind the buildings.
