Seasonal hiring is not anything new for retail services. and many businesses add staff at this time of year to handle increased business during the busy holiday season.

Among the businesses adding personnel is Allied Universal, a leading security and facility services company with headquarters in Conshohocken and Santa Ana, Calif., writes Donna Rovins in the Times Herald.

Allied is actively hiring an estimated 4,000 seasonal employees across the country. In the Philadelphia region, there are about 50 positions currently open for seasonal help, according to Jason Zigman, Allied Universal’s vice president of recruiting for the East division.

Workers hired by Allied Universal provide extra security coverage because of increased foot traffic, longer store hours, tree lighting ceremonies, tourist attractions and other festivities, according to the company.

“We live in a time where security is an important component to life,” Zigman said. “But there is also a customer service component. It’s about finding the candidate and matching them to the right job.”

In addition to the seasonal workers, Zigman said the company has an ongoing need for permanent employees — and currently has about 150 permanent jobs open across the Philadelphia region.

With an estimated total of 200,000 employees, Allied works to protect more than 42,000 client sites across North America in areas that include retail shopping centers, commercial real estate, higher education, residential locations and hospitals.
