Aqua Pennsylvania announces $12.4 million of infrastructure improvement projects across Montgomery County

Aqua America, a provider of water and wastewater services to approximately three million people, has several Montgomery County careers available.

Aqua Pennsylvania today announced that $12.4 million in infrastructure improvement projects are currently underway in Montgomery County. These projects will increase service reliability, reduce the potential for discolored water and improve firefighting capabilities in the area.

Multiple projects are taking place in Abington Township. Crews are working on a $4.1 million project to replace old 16-inch and 8-inch cast iron and cement mains with 9,251 feet of 24-inch and 1,202 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe. With project completion expected in November, work is taking place on the following streets:

  • Edge Hill Road between Woodland Road and Hazel Avenue
  • Edgecomb Avenue between Edge Hill Road and N. Tyson Avenue
  • Woodland Road near Edge Hill Road

Crews are also working on a $1.1 million project to replace old 6-inch cast iron mains with 6,183 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe. With completion expected in July, the project is taking place on the following streets:

  • Gilbert Road between Mill Road and Lindsay Lane
  • Lindsay Lane between Mill Road and Dixon Lane
  • Randolph Road between Lindsay Lane and Gilbert Road

Additionally, a $1.1 million project is taking place in Abington Township and Rockledge Borough. Crews are working to replace old 6-inch cast iron mains with 5,439 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe. The project, which is expected to be completed in September, is taking place on the following streets:

  • Heathcliffe Road between Vansan Road and Reese Avenue
  • Vansan Avenue between Heathcliffe and Ainslie roads
  • Ainslie Road between Vansan and Heathcliffe roads
  • Reese Avenue between Heathcliffe Road and Rockledge Avenue
  • Rockledge Avenue between N. Sylvania and Claire avenues
  • Wesley Avenue between Rockledge and Leona avenues

Two additional projects, each totaling $990,000 and scheduled for completion in August, are also underway in Abington Township. Crews are installing 5,367 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe to replace old 6-inch cast iron mains. Work is taking place on the following streets:

  • St. Johns Road between Pershing and Rossiter avenues
  • Doris Road between Norman Road and Rossiter Avenue
  • Rossiter Avenue between St. Johns and Thompson roads
  • Lukens Avenue between Rossiter and Miriam avenues
  • Galloway Road between Lukens Avenue and Fitzwatertown Road
  • Osbourne Avenue between Rossiter and Phipps avenues
  • Miriam Avenue between Osbourne Avenue and Galloway Road

Crews are also at work to install 4,751 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe to replace existing 6-inch cast iron mains. Work is taking place on the following streets:

  • Reservoir Avenue between Patane Avenue and Woodland Road
  • High Avenue between Patane Avenue and Woodland Road
  • Arnold Avenue between Patane Avenue and Woodland Road
  • Patane Avenue between Easton Road and Reservoir Avenue

In Upper Dublin Township, crews are working on a $2 million project to replace existing 6- and 8-inch cast iron mains with 5,240 feet of 12-inch, 1,947 feet of 8-inch and 528 feet of 6-inch ductile iron pipe. The project is expected to be completed in October and is taking place on the following streets:

  • Limekiln Pike between Fitzwatertown Road and Jeffery Drive
  • Martin Lane between Limekiln Pike and the cul-de-sac
  • Audubon Drive near Sandy Run Elementary
  • Fairway Shopping Center between Limekiln Pike and the rear of the Acme
  • Susquehanna Road between Limekiln Pike and Dresher Woods Drive
  • Limekiln Pike between Susquehanna and Dreshertown roads

In Upper Moreland Township, crews are installing 6,083 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe to replace the existing 6-inch cast iron main at a cost of $1.1 million. Work is taking place on the following streets:

  • Cowbell Road near Greyhorse Road
  • Sleighride Road between Cowbell and Greyhorse roads
  • Greyhorse Road between Cowbell and Terwood roads

In Cheltenham Township, crews are installing 5,395 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe to replace the existing 6-inch cast iron mains at a cost of $1.1 million. Work is taking place on the following streets:

  • Old Farm Road between Rock Creek Drive and Arboretum Road
  • Rock Creek Road between Lorimer and Old Farm roads
  • Curtis Drive between Arboretum Road and Hedgerow Lane
  • Bok Road between Curtis Drive and Arboretum Road

These projects are part of Aqua’s $49 million capital program in Montgomery County for 2018,and more than $227 million planned across Pennsylvania this year. Aqua Pennsylvania invested $225 million in similar projects in 2017.
