The field of potential names for Philadelphia’s new National Lacrosse League  franchise has been whittled down to three candidates: the Philadelphia Fire, the Philadelphia Founders, and the Philadelphia Wings, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Philadelphia had a professional lacrosse team named the Wings for more than 25 years before the franchise relocated to Connecticut in 2014.

Nick Sakiewicz, the former CEO of Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union who last year took over as the commissioner of the NLL, moved the league’s headquarters to Conshohocken, Pa

“There is a lot of excitement for the return of professional lacrosse in Philadelphia,” said Lindsey Masciangelo, executive director of business operations for the lacrosse team. “More than 800 people have already reserved season tickets.”Comcast Spectacor, the owner of the new NLL team set to begin play in the 2018-19 season, said they received more than 5,100 entries in its name-the-team contest that began Sept. 14. Fans can select their choice online through Nov. 13, after which time a winning name and logo will be revealed.

Comcast Spectacor will select one entry in the name-the-team contest and award the contestant with two season tickets to the inaugural season, exclusive team access and a $500 gift card to Dunkin’ Donuts.
