Bryn Mawr Among Nation’s Top 50 Colleges for Renewable Energy

By

With the requirements for standardized test scores relaxed for fall 2021 admissions, some local colleges have seen their applications jump significantly.

According to a new report by PennEnvironment, Bryn Mawr College is among the top fifty colleges and universities in the country for embracing renewable energy, writes Frank Kummer for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Bryn Mawr gets all of its electricity through renewable sources, primarily by buying renewable energy credits. RECs allow institutions to buy renewable power that has been generated on their behalf.

“Campus communities are leading the charge,” said David Masur, director of PennEnvironment. “Campuses are making everyday decisions that reflect their values. They care about climate change and renewable energy.”

The report was compiled using data provided by the Environmental Protection Agency. Bryn Mawr came in at No. 42.

The college began buying renewable energy credits years ago. By 2015, the educational institution was receiving 100 percent of its electricity from renewable energy sources.

Additionally, the school has been working on dropping its emissions and has more than halved its gross output over the last twelve years by using various energy saving methods.
