From a modest-looking office complex in Bala Cynwyd, billionaire Jeff Yass directs both a global trading empire and one of the country’s most expansive education-focused philanthropic efforts, writes the staff for The Washington Post.
The co-founder of Susquehanna International Group, Yass has built a fortune estimated at more than $65 billion. Over the past decade, Yass has become deeply committed to school choice, supporting charter schools, scholarships, and education innovation programs nationwide. His interest in education is personal as well as philosophical.
Along with his wife, Janine, Yass helped launch Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia, a public charter school that opened in 2007. Since then, he has supported education nonprofits and innovators through the Yass Prize, which awards millions to organizations working outside traditional public school models.
Beyond education, Yass also maintains a significant stake in the global tech economy as a major investor in ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok. That connection has placed him at the intersection of finance, media, and digital culture.
Despite his global reach, Yass continues to operate out of Bala Cynwyd with a reputation for modesty, mathematical precision, and a belief that education access is one of the most powerful tools for long-term change.
