Mill Race Inn Redevelopment Approved in Holland. Some Raise Objections

The Mill Race Inn in Holland is finally set for redevelopment, with plans calling for age-restricted housing, though some raise concerns.

Long considered an eyesore by many, the Mill Race Inn in Holland is finally set for redevelopment, with plans centered on age-restricted housing, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Northampton Township supervisors approved plans from developer Costigan Builders in April to build a 55-plus community with two four-story condominium buildings. These would include 33 market-rate units along with 2,050 square feet of office space.

The Mill Race Inn, a restaurant since 1961, suffered heavy damage from Hurricane Floyd’s flooding in late 1999. Its owners later abandoned it, leaving the building to deteriorate.

The topographical challenges on the site, such as steep grading and its proximity to Mill Creek, have made redevelopment of the property challenging.

But while many have welcomed the latest development plans, some residents have raised concerns about the project. They cite existing traffic congestion around the site, which they fear will worsen due to both construction and the arrival of new residents. Others had hoped to persuade the board to preserve the property as green space along the waterway.
