Ardmore’s Merion Golf Club hosted a memorable day of golf for Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley, team owner Jeffrey Lurie, and former President Barack Obama, writes the Associated Press.
Hurts was unable to play due to the terms of his $255 million contract. However, he still relished the experience of walking the course alongside the former president.
“He’s like an uncle figure out there,” Hurts said of Obama. “To see him out there, enjoying himself, talk a little trash, that was cool.” Hurts, whose Eagles are on a three-game winning streak, humorously challenged Obama. “I told him, you don’t want these problems just yet,” Hurts said. “His day will come.”
Barkley, in his first season with the Eagles, took full advantage of the opportunity to learn from Barack Obama. They spoke particularly on the topic of leadership. “It was one of the coolest experiences of my life,” Barkley shared, adding that he spent nearly five hours with Obama, gaining insights and enjoying golf. While Barkley, in season, didn’t try to outplay Obama, he noted that the former president had skill, calling him “an athlete.”
