A massive grant will help expand and connect several Montgomery County trails, writes Justin Heinze for the Patch. The grant will further improve accessibility and sustainability across the entire region.
The $45 million grant that has been awarded to the county is part of a larger $200 million funding provided for the Philadelphia area’s Circuit Trails Network. The connection of hundreds of miles of multi-use trails is one of the largest networks of its kind in the country.
Some of the most popular trails in the county will benefit from the funding. The grant will make it possible to connect the Cross County Trail in Conshohocken with several other local trails, including the Wissahickon Green Ribbon Trail, SEPTA’s Fort Washington Station, the Willow Grove YMCA, and the Power Line Trail.
Considering that the Cross County Trail and the Schuylkill River Trail intersect, the new connection will create foot or bike access to Philadelphia as well as going out to Bucks County from some of the most populous parts of Montgomery County.
The funds were secured from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission and the 2025 Transportation Improvement Program for Pennsylvania.
