Narberth’s GET Café, run by the non-profit GETincluded, gives people with disabilities much-needed job experience. The café has a staff of 40, some with disabilities and some without, and sees over 100 customers a day, writes J.F. Pirro for Main Line Today

It all started when Wynnewood’s Brooke and Jon Goodspeed had their middle son, Oliver in 2010.

Oliver lives with Down’s Syndrome and autism, and the Goodspeeds have found most places inaccessible. Brooke, an oncology nurse practitioner, wanted to give her son the support he deserved.

The Goodspeeds moved to Wynnewood from the city so their son could attend a school that was a better fit for him. However, the family still struggled in the suburbs. So they took it upon themselves to provide the support. Thus, GET’s community center, all 500 sq. ft. of it, was born.

The nonprofit provides life skills training such as cooking and has evolved into a resource for both employees and the community.

The café has helped people with disabilities get the job experience they need and move on to other positions. One employee went on to work at CoCo Thai Bistro in Narberth.
