Norristown Area High School graduate Michael Starling is one of the state’s biggest names in the burgeoning field of high school sports videography, writes Aaron Carter for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Starling, nicknamed “Big Star,” has more than 15,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel. On Instagram, he has more than 8,000 followers, while about 3,700 follow him on Twitter.

Starling, who filmed all of his sons’ games and described himself as a “camera dad,” started putting the videos he made on YouTube.

“A couple days later,” he said, “there was a couple hundred views, and a lightbulb went off.”

Starling, who earned a degree in public health promotion and works full time as a juvenile advocate in the Dauphin County public defender’s office, creates highlight tapes for high school athletes, shows full-game replays on his YouTube channel, and travels the country to attend games.

“This is my hobby,” he said. “I do it at my leisure … and I want it to kind of stay that way. I want to be able to make videos and have fun with the camera because I want to.”
