Chef Jose Vargas and his Brunch N’ Tacos is an Elkins Park hidden gem, one that locals flock to for five-star midmorning dishes with some ethnic zip. But to their chagrin — and to the advantage of brunch fans across Montgomery County — the word on this culinary gem is leaking. The venture didn’t start out with a daily brunch offering when it opened in 2015. But weekend demand precipitated the timeframe expansion.

“We were doing Saturday and Sunday brunch,” Vargas explained. “So many people were coming during the week that I said, ‘You know what? Let’s do brunch… all day.’”

The mid-morning menu lists churro pancakes, barbacoa Benedict, rancheros empanadas, and Distrito tacos, a street food found in Mexico City.

The success Vargas is seeing in Montgomery County is attributed to his diligence.

“He’s a really hardworking man, said Brunch N’ Tacos manager Anasazi Vargas-Lombarde. “Seeing firsthand how he’s dealt with everything, from opening this business to where we are now, I look up to that.”
