Sadly, more than one million military service personnel have died during American wars. Memorial Day is intended to honor them, their lives, and their service.

A special day in the life of the nation, it is a time to remember the bravery of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedoms held so dear.

The Wayne community has a long history of honoring its war dead with a parade down the main thoroughfare on Lancaster Avenue, through the heart of town, ending at the War Memorial on South Wayne Avenue.

The Valley Forge Military Academy and College Regimental Band and the Corps of Cadets have long been the much-heralded anchor to the parade. There are 27 members of the VFMAC Regimental Marching Band participating on Monday.

In addition to the parade, there are a series of events around the campus to honor VFMAC graduates who are among the fallen. Wreaths will be placed at the Korean Memorial, the WWII Memorial, the Annenberg Memorial, and at the Book of Remembrance in the Chapel. Cadets will offer words of remembrances and prayers of gratitude.

As part of the solemn observances, the Band of America’s Few will perform a concert on the VFMAC campus.
