One Bucks County student turned her prom disappointment into action, reports Tom Sofield for Levittown Now.

School officials at Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown didn’t cancel the senior prom. They just scaled it back to a carnival-style event.

Not exactly the long-gown, dance-til-you-drop evening that student Shannon Prendergast was looking for.

Prendergast launched an alternative, a nonschool-affiliated prom at an offsite location. She booked a space, Falls Manor Catering in Bristol Township, and a June 17 date. And she scheduled the usual prom components: food, D.J., photo booth, and decorations.

All she needs now is attendees to pony up the $70 for tickets.

“A lot of us were really upset about the pandemic taking things away, so it’s exciting that we could have something,” Prendergast said.

Some students have suggested the price tag as being a little steep. Area residents and businesses have stepped up to cover their tickets.

Colleen Prendergast, Shannon’s mom, said she’s proud of her daughter.

“I wasn’t surprised when I heard she was doing this. She’s a leader,” she said.

This isn’t Shannon’s first time salvaging an important event. She also redefined her Freshman Formal, holding a version in her backyard.
