Despite the pandemic that has been wreaking havoc around the globe, around nine million Americans have decided to move homes since the outbreak of the virus, writes Molly Henderson for the Moving Company Reviews.

However, a significant part of these moves last year were not specifically COVID-19 related.

According to Marie Patino of Bloomberg, the movements vary significantly by city and region and “in many cases likely accelerate trends already in effect before the pandemic.”

Still, there are also those who have moved due to the pandemic, in some cases relocating to less expensive homes and in other cases moving into bigger residences with more space that allows them to work from home.

Meanwhile, the group that have been most affected by the coronavirus to the extent that they had to move are young adults.

According to the June 2020 Pew Research, “37% of those aged 18 to 29 say they moved, someone moved into their home, or they know someone who moved because of the outbreak.”

The same research found that lower-income families were more likely to move due to the virus than those having middle and upper incomes.
