As companies continue their preparations for the post-pandemic workplace, East Greenville-based Knoll has reported an uptick in interest in mobile tables, carts, and partitions, writes Jane Margolies for The New York Times.

Knoll is not the only supplier of office furniture that has found strong interest for these items. This shows that companies are opting for furniture that can be easily moved as needs change.

It will be especially used in gathering areas that are not only becoming more easily adjustable but also larger.

Personal areas will also undergo a change. Many companies are choosing to switch to a hybrid model that will have employees work at the office only a few days of the week, meaning there is no longer the need for personal desks.

In some cases, these are being replaced with so-called “hoteling” workstations or hot desks which can be used by whomever needs a place to settle down for the day.

And while employees have often resisted the removal of personal desks in the past, it is expected they will be more amenable to the idea when they have the ability to avoid commuting and work from home.
