Pennsylvania was in the middle of the pack for the unemployment recovery rate in the nation in December, according to a new report by WalletHub.

To determine the ranking for its States Whose Unemployment Rates Are Bouncing Back Most list, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on four key metrics.

This included comparing the change in unemployment year-over-year, comparing non seasonally adjusted continued claims, and overall unemployment rate.

Pennsylvania ranked at No. 28 with an unemployment rate of 6.4 percent, the 18th highest in the U.S. Still, this is a significant improvement compared to July 2020, when the unemployment rate stood at 14.1 percent.

The Keystone State recorded a change in unemployment of 34.73 percent from December 2020 compared with the same month of the previous year, with 397,625 unemployed people versus 295,120. This made it the 14th best recovery in the U.S.

Compared to January 2020, the change is at 19.11 percent or the 19th best recovery nationwide.

However, at 178.86 percent change in not seasonally adjusted continued claims for December 2020 compared with December 2019, Pennsylvania recorded the 24th worst recovery nationwide.
