In Montco, COVID-19 Continues to Climb With 2,725 New Cases in the Last Week

7 new deaths reported since Tuesday, January 12, bringing the total number of Montgomery County residents confirmed positive to have died from COVID-19 to 1,087.

On Wednesday, January 13th, the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners and the Office of Public Health (OPH) have reported COVID-19 test results and deaths from January 6 to 12, 2021.

Over the past week, 2,725 additional people tested positive for coronavirus, and 52 people died of COVID-19, bringing the countywide total to 37,651 cases and 1,080 deaths.  

14 of those who have died from COVID-19 resided in a long-term care facility. Of the new COVID-19 cases, 67 of the new cases are in long-term care facilities. More information is included in the linked weekly report.

7 new deaths have been reported since Tuesday, January 12, bringing the total number of Montgomery County residents confirmed positive to have died from COVID-19 to 1,087. Of those, 564 are females and 523 are males.

There are approximately 380 individuals being treated for COVID-19 in Montgomery County hospitals, which is a decrease of 49 since last week, with roughly 11% of them requiring the use of a ventilator.

The Montgomery County OPH is vaccinating qualifying healthcare staff at a public vaccination clinic hosted by Montgomery County Community College.

Due to the limited supply of vaccine at this time, only people in the CDC-defined 1A category who live or work in Montgomery County will be given appointments.

“At this time, Montgomery County is still only vaccinating frontline healthcare workers in Phase 1A,” said Dr. Valerie A. Arkoosh, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “Because our supply is limited, we do not have a timeline for when we will be able to start vaccinating people in other phases. We ask for your patience.”

Montgomery County COVID-19 testing sites are open weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at six locations across the County, weather permitting.

Testing is available to anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Montgomery County. Appointments can be made online or starting at 8:30 a.m. by calling 610-970-2937. 

All Montgomery County COVID-19 testing sites will be closed on Monday, January 18, 2021, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
