Conshohocken Co-Founder of Folk-Rock Band ‘Good Old War’ Releases First Solo Album
Conshohocken’s Dan Schwartz, also known as Danny Black, co-founder of the folk-rock band Good Old War, has released his first solo album, Black Ryno, writes Hobart Rowland for Main Line Today.
Schwartz has previously released four full-length albums with the band over seven years along with a series of singles and EPs.
With its tight harmonies and honest and intelligent lyrics, the music has secured Good Old War a loyal grassroots fan base.
For this solo album, Schwartz wrote all the songs and played all instruments other than drums and keyboards. The moniker Danny Black was invented specifically for the album.
“Schwartz means black in German,” said the musician. “When I decided I was going to do something on my own, I felt a little funny about seeing my own name on album covers, T-shirts and stuff. So it’s like a band name, even if it is just me.”
However despite releasing a solo album, Schwartz misses traveling with his group to shows—something the pandemic has made impossible.
“It’s a lifestyle, so it’s like having half of your life taken away,” he said.
