Mount Airy Candle, which produces hand-poured, uniquely scented candles, has seen tremendous growth since its launch two years ago, writes Brandon T. Harden for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Owner Marques Davis started his business as a small, made-to-order Etsy shop. Now he produces up to 300 candles a month that are sold on the company’s website, at various retailers such as Rothe Florists in Mount Airy, along with farmers markets in Elkins Park.

Davis began making candles in late 2017 as he wanted to give them as handmade gifts to his family and friends for Christmas. His goal was not to start a small business, however when people started asking him to create more candles that they could buy and gift to other people, he realized he could turn his hobby into something more.

His business took a hit when the pandemic broke out, but after he put some more thought and effort into his company’s website, things started to take off once more.

“We’ve really seen an uptick in our wholesale orders,” he said.

Mount Airy Candle offers four curated collections, including Earth & Ether, Florals & Fruits, Musk & Man, and Sugar & Spice.
