Montgomery County COVID-19 Thursday Afternoon Update – April 16th
Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the Commissioner’s Wednesday afternoon press conference, here is quick snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley and Pennsylvania.
As of 10:00 AM Wednesday morning, Montgomery County reported 76 new COVID-19, down 23 cases from the 108 reported Monday.
The 76 new cases, 40 of which were females, came from 22 municipalities, range in age from 8 to 95 years-old and fall in the following age brackets:
- 0 to 9 – 1
- 10 to 19 – 0
- 20 to 29 – 6
- 30 to 39 – 6
- 40 to 49 – 10
- 50 to 59 – 16
- 60 to 69 – 16
- 70 to 79 – 12
- 80 to 89 – 20
- 90 to 99 – 10
- 100 to 109 – 0
The 99 new positive cases brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 2,198 countywide.
Of those 2,123 confirmed cases, 1022 are male, 1,146 are female.
The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 53.9 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110 year-old Abington man, the oldest.
Sixtyone of the county’s 62 municipalities are home to at least one individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
Of those 61 municipalities, only one, Bryn Athyn Borough in the county’s southeast corner, reports zero cases of COVID-19.

The County continues to monitor the 75 Department of Health certified long-term care centers and approximately 620 congregant care facilities across Montgomery County for instances of COVID-19.
Of the 736 cases reported at these centers through Wednesday morning, 447 were residents and the balance, 289 cases, were of staff members of the care facility.
As of Wednesday, 79 of those facilities have the following number of residents or staff with COVID-19:
- 46 facilities with 1 to 5 cases
- 12 facilities with 6 to 10 cases
- 5 facilities with 11 to 15 cases
- 4 facilities with 16 to 20 cases
- 1 facilities with 21 to 25 cases
- 5 facilities with 26 to 30 cases
- 2 facility with 31 to 35 cases
- 1 facility with 36 to 40 cases
- 1 facility with 41 to 45 cases
- 1 facility with 51 to 55 cases
- 1 facility with 61 to 65 cases
Eleven new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 53 to 67 years-old were reported in Montgomery County on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s deaths move the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 120.
Seventyseven (54%) of the 120 COVID-19 deaths were residents or staff of the nearly 600-plus Montgomery County long-term care facilities.
Nearly 40% of Montgomery County’s 91 COVID-19 deaths are in two municipalities; Springfield Township with 28 deaths and Upper Gwynedd Township with 18.
The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 120 is 17% of the 707 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.
The County’s 2,198 COVID-19 cases represent 7.9-percent of the 27,735 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.
By comparison, as of noon Thursday when the state updated their coronavirus count, with the exception of Philadelphia County, with 7,684 COVID-19 positive cases, neighboring and surrounding counties all have fewer positive coronavirus cases than does Montgomery County:
