In an effort to stay afloat after having to close their doors due to the coronavirus pandemic, several indie movie theaters in Montgomery County and the entire region are offering their curated content for rent through their respective websites, writes Virginia Streva for the Philly Voice.

The participating theaters include the Bryn Mawr Film Institute and Renew Theaters, which owns Ambler Theater and Hiway Theater in Jenkintown.

The cost per rental varies between $9 and $13 with a portion of the sales directly supporting the local theater. The films can be watched both on a mobile device or computer. To be able to play them on a television, viewers need either Apple AirPlay or Chromecast.

In addition to renting movies, several theaters have also moved some of their regular events online. For example, the Bryn Mawr Film Institute will host “The Empathy and Ecstasy of Wes Anderson, Part 2” course online from June 8 to June 29.

Meanwhile, all Renew Theaters will be hosting watch parties in May. During these, viewers will be able to enjoy the movies on Netflix and then discuss it as a group in Discord.
