Montgomery County COVID-19 Friday Update – April 24th
Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the Commissioner’s Thursday afternoon press conference, here is a snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley and Pennsylvania.
As of 10:00 AM Thursday morning, Montgomery County reported 119 new COVID-19, up from the 106 new cases reported Wednesday.
The 119 new cases, 75 of which were males, came from 35 municipalities and range in age from 1 to 97 years-old and fall in the following age brackets:
- 0 to 9 – 1
- 10 to 19 – 2
- 20 to 29 – 11
- 30 to 39 – 14
- 40 to 49 – 9
- 50 to 59 – 18
- 60 to 69 – 22
- 70 to 79 – 19
- 80 to 89 -13
- 90 to 99 – 10
- 100 to 109 – 0
The 119 new positive cases brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 3,212 countywide.
Of those 3,212 confirmed cases, 1,461 are male, 1,721 are female.
The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 55.5 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110 year-old Abington man, the oldest.
Sixtyone of the county’s 62 municipalities are home to at least one individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
Of those 61 municipalities, only one, Bryn Athyn Borough in the county’s southeast corner, reports zero COVID-19 cases.
Four of the County’s 62 municipalities – Lower Merion (302), Springfield (256), Cheltenham (245), and Abington (240), account for 1,043 (32.4%) of the positive cases countywide.

The County continues to monitor the 75 Department of Health certified long-term care centers and approximately 550 congregant care facilities across Montgomery County for instances of COVID-19.
Of the 1,215 cases reported at these centers through Thursday morning, 738 were residents and the balance, 377 cases, were of staff members of the care facility.
As of Thursday, 85 of those facilities have the following number of residents or staff with COVID-19:
- 37 facilities with 1 to 5 cases
- 17 facilities with 6 to 10 cases
- 7 facilities with 11 to 15 cases
- 5 facilities with 16 to 20 cases
- 2 facilities with 21 to 25 cases
- 3 facilities with 26 to 30 cases
- 2 facilities with 31 to 35 cases
- 4 facilities with 36 to 40 cases
- 1 facility with 41 to 45 cases
- 3 facilities with 46 to 50 cases
- 1 facility with 51 to 55 cases
- 1 facility with 61 to 65 cases
- 1 facility with 76 to 80 cases
Five new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 45 to 87 years-old were reported in Montgomery County on Thursday.
Thursday’s deaths move the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 179, 105 of which were residents or staff of long-term or congregate care facilities in the county.
Ninety five (53.1%) of Montgomery County’s 172 COVID-19 deaths are in five municipalities; Springfield Township (35), Upper Gwynedd Township (21), Abington (16), Upper Providence (13), and Lower Gwynedd (10).
The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 179 is 12.6% of the 1,421 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.
The County’s 3,212 COVID-19 cases represent 8.7-percent of the 37,053 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.
By comparison, as of noon Thursday when the state updated their coronavirus count, with the exception of Philadelphia County with 9,696 COVID-19 positive cases and 365 deaths, neighboring and surrounding counties all report fewer positive coronavirus cases and deaths than Montgomery County’s tally:
