Ardent Credit Union has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its “Cube” branch design that debuted in GlaxoSmithKline’s Collegeville offices in late 2018, writes Aaron Passman for the Credit Union Journal.

The branch is 10 feet tall, 14 feet wide, and 14 feet long. It is designed as a full-service facility for easy integration into existing buildings, including retail spaces and offices.

The end sections of the unit can be also extend the unit to 24 feet. It has space for two staff members and is intended to service a few members at a time.

“We’ve noticed that even with the advancements in online banking, consumers are still looking for nearby in-branch access when selecting a financial institution,“ said Ardent President and CEO Rob Werner. “The Cube is a perfect model of what can exist between the mobile phone and the freestanding corner branch.”

Now that the credit union has received a patent for the design, it plans to sell Cube branch structures to other interested financial institutions. Each Cube is projected to cost around $250,000.
