IKEA, the Swedish furniture giant with its U.S. headquarters in Conshohocken, is expanding on its Safer Homes initiative by introducing its new child safety app, writes Anne Flynn Wear for the Furniture Retailing.

“It only takes a few minutes to make life at home safer for children, and we want to give parents and caregivers accessible tools and tips they need to protect their little ones,” said Antonella Pucarelli, IKEA Retail U.S. chief commercial officer.

In addition to the free mobile app, IKEA has created a landing page. Just like the app, this provides information about the different development stages in children and offers home safety tips tailored for a child’s age.

Starting in November, IKEA will also launch a series of workshops set in its stores to help customers learn how to create a safer home environment for their children. The workshops will be specifically focused on furniture tip-over.

In addition, the retailer will include pediatrician offices in its initiative. There the Safer Homes message will be displayed on screens to parents and caregivers as they are already in the mindset of thinking about their child’s safety and well-being.
