The two popular Montgomery County creameries are within just a few miles of each other and took the top two spots on the state’s newly created ice cream trail, writes Regan Stephens for Food & Wine.

The Pursue Your Scoops Ice Cream Trail was organized by Visit PA in partnership with the state’s Department of Agriculture. The program includes a series of trails that cover Western, South Central, and Eastern Pennsylvania. Each of them includes a combination of scoop shops and family-run farm creameries that highlight the Keystone State’s strong dairy industry.

Freddie Hill Farms, Lansdale, has so much more than ice cream, with mini golf, batting cages and even a driving range, visitors have a lot of options for working off that triple scoop cone.

Just down the road, Merrymead Farm also in Lansdale, has been in the same family for more than a century and has an annual corn field maze in the fall that is a challenge to finish. There’s also a smaller children’s corn maze for the little ones.
