Restaurant Review: Eddie V’s Prime Seafood

Earlier this year, Pennsylvania welcomed its second location of Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, which opened at 670 W Dekalb Pike in King of Prussia. The first location opened in Pittsburgh in 2017. Eddie V’s Prime Seafood is a fine-dining restaurant known for the fresh seafood flown in from pristine waters around the world and their premium steaks, hand-cut from the finest, specialty-aged, center-cut beef available.
With a last-minute babysitter cancellation, we decided to make Eddie V’s a family affair. With kids in tow, we excitedly made our way to King of Prussia. When you first enter the restaurant, soft jazz music greets you as it floats from the V Lounge. Eddie V’s posts the schedule of their live jazz performers on their website, so you can plan your visit around performers. As we were directed to our table, we walked by the impressive glass-enclosed wine cellar. Eddie V’s has an award-winning wine list with more than 300 wines. As we moved from the wine cellar to the dining room, we all noticed the towering seafood trays. The kids also observed the white waistcoats on the servers, which set an elegant tone to the atmosphere.
The host guided us to a private dining area. After being seated, our server explained the menu to us and made cocktail recommendations. We settled on the Smoked Old Fashioned, the Lemon Rosemary Spritz and Shirley Temples for the kids. The Smoked Old Fashioned is impressive, I highly suggest ordering. The drink is served table-side, with the glass smoked on a cedar plank. The server skillfully charred the cedar plank and overturned the glass over the char. The glass was then flipped right-side-up, the smoke bellowed out from the glass. The ice cube was then dropped into the glass, and the drink mixed expertly. The drink was garnished with an orange peel and cherry. The experience dazzled the whole table. My son was so impressed, he tried to convince the server that a “Smoked Shirley Temple” should be on the menu for their younger guests.
At the suggestion of our server, we started with the Tartare of Pacific Ahi Tuna and the small Shellfish Tower. The small Shellfish Tower was anything but small. Topped with a Maine Lobster, the tower consisted of six jumbo shrimps, six oysters, and jumbo lump crab. Keeping with the recommendations of our server, we selected the Maine Lobster Bisque for our second course. The bisque was rich and creamy. Not a drop of the bisque was left in the bowls. The kids shared the Caesar salad, which was a perfect portion for them.
Choosing a dinner entrée was difficult as the menu is filled with enticing options. The diverse dinner menu includes signature dishes like: Parmesan Sole, Chilean Sea Bass, Bacon Wrapped Filets “Oscar” Style with Alaskan King Crab, Misoyaki “Butterfish”, and Swordfish Steak. According to our server, one of their most popular dinner menu option is the Chilean Sea Bass Steamed Hong Kong Style with Light Soy Broth, we ordered this and the Bacon Wrapped Filet “Oscar” style with Alaskan King Crab. The Children’s menu included a center cut filet, which my son selected and chicken fingers with fries for my daughter. The sides are served à la carte. We decided on the Truffled Macaroni and Cheese and Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Shallots. The filet was served with Grilled Asparagus, Béarnaise. When the entrées arrived at the table, they were each beautifully presented. The Chilean Sea Bass was fresh and perfectly cooked. My son did not leave a trace of the steak on his plate, so it must have been tasty. I did manage to sneak a bite of my husband’s Bacon Wrapped Filet “Oscar” style before it was gone, and it was delicious. The Truffled Macaroni and Cheese was my favorite side as well as the kids.
After finishing our entrées, we were convinced we were too full for dessert until we saw the dessert menu. The kids decided to split the hot chocolate Godiva cake with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. We ordered the Bananas Foster Butter Cake flambéed table-side and served with butter pecan ice cream and the crushed toffee s’mores with toasted homemade marshmallow. The deserts were the grand finale. The kids were dazzled with the table-side flambéing of the Bananas Foster and ate more of the Banana Foster than their Godiva Cake. The Godiva cake was amazing as well, as evidenced by the lack of leftovers at the table.
Eddie V’s was not just about the amazing food and drinks but the experience. In addition to the delicious and beautiful food, there is also a cocktail list that does not disappoint. Each dish was artistically presented, and the service was impeccable. Be prepared for the price tag, although well worth it, you will be opening your wallet a little wider. We are adding Eddie V’s on our list of top favorite places for special occasions!
