Valley Forge park to put some new spins on history

By

VFTCB and The Encampment Store are continuing to funding to help keep the park visitor center open during the government shutdown.

With a vision to bring history to life in a playful and entertaining way, Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board imagined modern heroes and historic giants teaming up. Thus, “Washington the Spymaster” was launched, which was created to to showcase the history of Valley Forge National Historical Park, as well as sponsor Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board’s (VFTCB) history brand, Patriot Trails.

And, at the end of the first installment, the modern heroes, James and Lydia, traveled back in time to help General George Washington. The sequel made it’s debut earlier this month at Valley Forge National Historical Park’s traditional March In commemoration —  winds down the children’s adventure as they  thwart a plot against Washington and help him on a mission with the hopes of making it back to the present day, writes Gary Puleo in The Times Herald.

“We wanted to get as many families and kids as possible excited about history in Montgomery County and one of the most visible sites in the county, Valley Forge Park,” noted Joe Tacynec, Creative Director for the VFTCB. “The idea was to have the characters be present day to make it more relatable for kids. It involves two kids in the present day, and one kid is struggling with school and has a book report due and the parents find out and say ‘Well, we’re going to take you to Valley Forge Park’ and you’re going to learn first-hand.

“The kids go begrudgingly and while they’re at Valley Forge Park they’re wrestling with this quill they found and wind up getting thrown back in time and General Washington gives them a mission to do. They figure they’re going to do this mission in order to get back to the present day. There’s a plot to basically kidnap them and it leads them on this journey where they learn stuff from Washington and everybody at the encampment, and by the end of it they’re back in the present day and the kid gives an incredible report that blows everybody away. So it’s fun for kids and families, as well as being educational.”
