Montgomery County Community College’s (MCCC) Workforce Development Division’s Medical Billing Specialist Program enables students to gain the knowledge and skills they need to work in a variety of health care, insurance and technology-based companies.

Through this rigorous 13-week program, students will learn medical terminology, CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding and the standard techniques for electronic health records. They also will be trained in basic claims processes for medical insurance and third-party reimbursements. MCCC’s instructors are medical billing and coding professionals, who have years of industry experience, according to a press release

Classes start Tuesday evening, Sept. 18, at MCCC’s Central Campus in Blue Bell and continue through Dec. 15. For additional information about the program or to register, contact Bernadette DeBias at bdebias@mc3.edu, or 610-718-1967.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the exam for the National Health Career Association’s Certified Billing and Coding Specialist certification. Earning this national certification shows potential employers that graduates have the skills needed to be valuable employees and gives graduates an advantage when they apply for jobs.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, medical billing is considered a high-priority occupation with a projected increase in jobs of approximately 14 percent in Montgomery County for the next year.

Additionally, MCCC’s Workforce Development Division collaborates with local employers to assist both companies and students with their goals.

“There are several health care organizations in Montgomery County that continually come to the College to recruit directly out of this program, and the demand continues to increase,” says Jim Fox, MCCC’s Executive Director of the Workforce Development.

One of MCCC’s employer partners for the Medical Billing Specialist Program is Office Practicum, a technology-based electronic health record company located in Fort Washington, PA.

“Office Practicum has partnered with Montgomery County Community College’s Medical Billing/Medical Receptionist Program to provide graduates of the program medical billing externships. Office Practicum is pleased with our partnership with the College as it is providing a pipeline of qualified workers with well-rounded training in medical billing,” said Kim Dudley, Corporate Talent Scout for Office Practicum.

“With our workforce programs, we provide the skills and knowledge needed for graduates to become immediately employed in high-demand occupations,” said Dr. David DiMattio, MCCC’s Vice President of Workforce Development and West Campus. “Our programs are offered at convenient times for career changers, and people who have multiple responsibilities.”
