Tech Talk: Comcast, Charter announce platform-building partnership

Philadelphia-based communications giant Comcast has released the names of five companies around the country that have begun using it machineQ platform.Comcast described the companies as “a sampling of the growing list of customers." (MONTCO.Today File photo.)

Cable giants Comcast and Charter Communications announced Friday a 50/50 partnership that will allow them to collaborate on a platform for their independent wireless ventures.

The development efforts,  based in Philadelphia,  will build on software Comcast first developed to power Xfinity Mobile, which Charter has already adapted to its own, soon-to-launch wireless service, writes Michelle Caffrey  at bizjournals.com.

In the new platform development deal, Charter will cover the initial development costs to offset what Comcast’s already spent building its current software, but once they’ve evened out expenses, they will fund the effort equally. The development will be overseen by four directors, two from Charter and two from Comcast.
