Tech Talk: Facebook didn’t read terms and conditions for data-gathering app

Facebook told British lawmakers Thursday it never read the terms and conditions for the app that allowed Cambridge Analytica to access the personal information of 87 million users.

Jo Stephens, a member of Parliament, asked Facebook if it had read and evaluated the terms and conditions for the  app, called ThisIsYourDigitalLife, before allowing it on the platform, and Mike Schroepfer, Facebook’s chief technology officer, replied, “We did not read all the terms and conditions,” writes Tony Romm at philly.com.

Along with the U.K., which has held hearings to probe the matter, regulators with the European Union are also studying the Cambridge Analytica controversy. The EU’s Parliament has asked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to testify at an upcoming hearing, but he has not committed to an appearance.
