The increasing reports of sexual assaults and sexual harassments have shed the light on the issue of sexual violence. Calls to our 24 hour hotline have increased.  VSC’s advocates/counselor and crisis volunteers who are trained to provide immediate emotional support to survivors of crime and provide much needed crisis intervention.

Victim Services Center commends the survivors who have helped open the lid on the issue of sexual assault and sexual harassment that has been occurring in our society. We know from our work as victim advocates and crisis counselors that many victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment suffer in silence, experience feelings of anxiety, depression self-doubt and shame. The ” Me Too” movement is empowering survivors, supporters and victim advocates and enlightening many in our society.

The key factor in sexual assault and sexual harassment is power of the abuser over the abused.  Though sexual violence occurs across in society, some men of influence or in high powerful positions may feel entitled to do whatever they want. These actions may include sexual assault and sexual harassment of those in vulnerable positions.

In some situations, the victim may not realize that they are being groomed and may think that the person with power is giving them special attention because they are very special too. Victims are frightened to speak out because of fear of retaliation, in addition to the imbalance of power which makes it difficult, scary and intimidating to face their abuser. They experience psycho-emotional trauma and feel wounded by the abuse.

If you or someone you know needs our services, call our 24-hour crisis hotline at 888-521-0983. Learn more about VSC by visiting our web site www.victimservicescenter.org
