Conshohocken-managed Manchester Arena Concert Scene of Monday’s Terrorist Attack

The United Kingdom and the world are in mourning after an Ariana Grande concert at the U.K.’s Manchester Arena ended in an explosion that left 22 dead and 59 wounded, write Rory Smith and Sewell Chan for The New York Times.

The crowd at the Manchester Arena, which is run by Conshohocken’s SMG, was engulfed in panic and mayhem as the blast echoed through the building. The explosion in the arena’s foyer took place just as the show was ending.

According to Manchester’s Chief Constable, Ian Hopkins, an improvised explosive device was detonated by a man who was killed in the blast. This marks the deadliest terrorist attack in the United Kingdom since the transit bombings in London in 2005. He added that police are now trying to determine if this man is part of a wider network.

According to reports that are currently under investigation by the Manchester Police, the device used in the blast also contained nuts and bolts to act as shrapnel. The wounded have been transported to eight hospitals in Manchester. Among the victims were several children.

“This is currently being treated as a terrorist incident until the police know otherwise,” wrote the Manchester police in a Twitter post.
