Adapt Technologies’ new manufacturing facility in West Conshohocken is ready to start producing its new range of cutting edge LED lightbulbs, writes Jonathan Takiff for Philly.com.

Founder and owner, Joe Wolf, originally learned how to make the new LED lightbulbs when he was importing them from China for his other company, US Global Glow.  The Chinese “showed me how they did things,” said Wolf, “even introduced me to the companies that supplied them with components and assembly machinery.”

When he later shared his intent to start a manufacturing facility in the U.S., he was met by support from some Chinese manufacturers. “I explained we would be doing things differently, wouldn’t really be competitive,” he said.

The lightbulbs produced at West Conshohocken will average 80 LED elements per tube. To eliminate the usual one percent of bulbs that are defective, each one will be tested through an eight hour long burn-in.

Adapt will offer customers its basic and higher-efficiency bulbs in three different color-output models that can easily be swapped by any handyman.

“Even in a relatively small McDonald’s, replacing the inefficient lights and utilizing controls we’ve lowered their utility cost by $1,000 a month,” said Wolf.
