Souderton’s Godshall’s Quality Meats celebrated Earth Day by passing the landmark of having more than 4,000 solar modules powering the three facilities it operates across the state.

The seven decade old company is constantly looking at ways to innovate its production processes and using solar energy is just one of its many projects.

“We’re excited to have a 1233kW system up and operating,” said Ron Godshall, the firm’s COO.

“We see this as an investment as well as an expression of positive corporate citizenship. Even more, stewardship of the earth is in keeping with our faith, which we hold as being integral to our success.”

In its long history, Godshall’s has grown from a small local butcher shop to an international company that supplies both branded and private label meats. The company’s flagship product is real wood smoked turkey bacon made of real meat. Many of Godshall’s other products also make use of lower fat recipes with turkey and chicken.

In addition to securing unprecedented growth for the company, President and CEO, Mark Godshall, has also introduced water recycling programs, implemented cleaner burning natural gas systems, and maintains a “zero landfill” program.

“Getting free power from empty roof and field space, that’s a no-brainer,” said Godshall.
