Bryn Athyn Museum Ushers in Christmas Using Global Nativity Scenes

The Glencairn Museum, a small religious museum in Bryn Athyn, is displaying 39 Christmas nativity scenes collected from around the world.

Glencairn Museum in Bryn Athyn is ushering in Christmas with a beautiful display of 39 nativity scenes collected from around the world, writes Peter Crimmins for NewsWorks.

The museum was founded 35 years ago with the story of the birth of Christ is at the very center of its mission.  Among the numerous displays, visitors can see beautiful scenes created in Poland, alongside those made in Tanzania with hand-carved ebony in the traditional Makonde style, as well as French “santons.”

“I feel that, beyond Christianity, the Nativity story is a very compelling narrative,” explained museum co-curator Kirsten Gyllenhaal. “It has elements that make a story invigorating.”
