Valley Forge Board Looks to Score More Sports, Meeting Tourism

By

The thrill of sports draws almost half of Montgomery County’s hotel guests, and new Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board initiatives are going on the offensive to score even more local sports and meeting business.

A prime example is USA Weightlifting‘s National Junior Championships, which in February generated $1.7 million in economic activity, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report by Kenneth Hilario.

The tourism board is rolling out its new Never Stop Fighting campaign to market in niche publications like Sports Travel, the Sports Planning Guide and the National Association of Sports Commissions, and the goal is to attract 3 to 5 percent more visitors in the next two years.

Likewise, a new Revolutionary Events: Forge the Extraordinary marketing campaign will target business meetings and conventions, which are increasingly staying closer to home.

“What we’re finding is corporate businesses that are in our county — that may go out of county — are staying in Montgomery County. There’s a lot for corporate meetings to do,” President Mike Bowman said in the article.
