PennStateAbgtn_SpcBlk287Penn State Abington graduate and certified fitness trainer Fabiana Ferrarini is hoping to become Philadelphia Magazine’s 2016 Health Hero, writes Regina Broscius for Penn State News.

Ferrarini was featured on the cover of Oxygen magazine after she won its 90-day training and nutrition challenge. Now she hopes to add to her accomplishments by being crowned the Philly Hero for this year.

The annual Be Well Philly Health Hero Challenge promotes local health and wellness champions, and Ferrarini has already made it to the semifinals out of the initial 600 nominees. The winner will see a $10,000 donation made in his or her name to a favorite charity.

Ferrarini, a 2010 Abington graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in life science, told Philadelphia Magazine that her goal is to significantly change public schools’ food offerings and nutritional education.

“I believe the most effective way to make Greater Philadelphia a healthier region is to educate and enable children to eat properly,” she said.
