With a lot of future development projects in the works four months into 2023, Norristown elected officials are excited about the municipality’s next chapter. Rachel Ravina reported the intended changes in The Times Herald.

“I would describe Norristown as the place that everybody’s going to want to be in the next five years,” said Norristown Municipal Council President Thomas Lepera.

The seven-member governing board that represents more than 35,000 constituents is being led by Lepera and Vice President Heather Lewis, both of whom were elected at the start of this year. They both have goals that would further the progress of the municipality.

At the top of their lists are proposed commercial and residential ventures throughout the borough.

“The development increases our tax base, and our goal is to not have to raise taxes and [instead] offer tax relief to our residents,” said Lewis.

Projects that are currently on top of the priority list include the future of the conveyed acreage of the Norristown State Hospital grounds, a mixed-use development at the Main and DeKalb, and firehouse consolidations.

Other projects include revamping recreational spaces and addressing crime.
