Steven Hettrich, who grew up in Exton and now resides in Chicago, has become known for his one-of-a-kind interior transformations and use of ancient materials, writes Allison Duncan for Illinois’ Sheridan Road Magazine.

Hettrich, who graduated from the then Downingtown High School, has been in business since 1998, creating ceiling murals, timeless plaster walls, and customized decor finishes. His work is showcased on the walls of Talbott Hotel in Chicago’s Gold Coast, in the homes of private commissioners, and other high-end areas.

“I was always the kid drawing in my free time, especially when I shouldn’t have been — like during class,” said Hettrich.

The work of Steven Hettrich Studios focuses on his passion for meticulous balance and deliberate brushstrokes. In recent years, he said his style has evolved from “lyrical abstractionism” to more material and functional art.

“The materials we use are ancient — there’s nothing new about them,” he said. “What my clients come to me for is the artistic hand. People are looking for that authenticity, which is the biggest service I provide. The outcome isn’t exact every time, which I love.”
