The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) issued a report on January 28th explaining the tremendous importance of preserving and maintaining Pennsylvania’s parks and forests.

The PPFF is the official nonprofit organization for all of the state parks and state forests in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. They issued “The Legacy of Pennsylvania Parks and Forests: The Future is in Our Hands” report at the Pennsylvania Capitol.

The Legacy of Pennsylvania Parks and Forests: The Future is in our Hands” report was attended by dozens of organizations in addition to many individuals. Everyone in attendance was connected by their strong commitment to preserve the legacy of Pennsylvania’s recreational, historical and beautiful natural resources. Many of the concerns voiced at the conference reflect a lot of comments the PPFF staff have been receiving for years. People still enjoy the parks and other resources but they have been noticing a steep decline in upkeep. The PPFF staff can only do so much with budgets getting smaller and smaller while being asked to do more and more with less resources.

Tina Molski, Director of Operations for REI’s east coast distribution center in Bedford and also Vice Chair of the PPFF board, said, “As someone who works in the recreation industry, I know the value of Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests. These resources provide unparalleled outdoor recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. And yet, the lack of a reliable, dedicated source of funding to maintain and improve existing recreational infrastructure in Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests is harming its potential.”

PPFF encourages everyone, including out-of-state visitors to come to Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests, to support the necessary funding for the maintenance needs of Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests. People can do this by reading the Legacy of Pennsylvania’s State Parks and Forests report, writing a legislator, and more.
