Overall, Pennsylvania welcomed about 1 million visitors this year and generated about $122 million in income. According to the data, the state is home to about 13,200 Airbnb hosts, who on average earn more than $5,000 in rentals.

The company was made legal in Philadelphia in July 2015  after zoning rules for rentals were adjusted to accommodate the new venture. That allowed residential areas  to be included and subjected them to an 8.5 percent hotel tax. The decision was prompted by the Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia.
