Mercy LIFE commemorated the opening of its first Montgomery County Program for All-Inclusive Care (PACE) Adult Day Center on November 29 at 11 a.m. The grand opening event included a dedication and blessing, open house, and facility tours, in addition to the seventh annual Mercy LIFE Devoted Caregiver Award presentation.

The new Montgomery County Mercy LIFE Adult Day Center is located at 1430 DeKalb Street and has the capacity to provide medical, social, nutritional and recreational services to over two hundred older adults in the Norristown community.

“Mercy LIFE – Norristown marks our first Adult Day Center in Montgomery County,” said Dan Drake, Mercy Health System Senior Vice President for Continuing Care. “Now, we are able to ensure Montgomery County seniors remain as independent as possible and have the best overall quality of life—right in their own neighborhood.”

In addition to the grand opening ceremony, Mercy LIFE celebrated its seventh annual Devoted Caregiver Award program. The award, established in 2012 to recognize an outstanding Mercy LIFE family caregiver, was presented to the Norristown Fire Department and the Norristown Police Department.

“Honoring the first responders who care for and protect all of us, but especially for the frail and elderly of Norristown, is a fitting way to commemorate the opening of our sixth Adult Day Center in Southeastern Pennsylvania,” said Drake. “We are moved by their service and look forward to emulating the care and compassion with which they serve the Norristown community.”

“We are humbled by this designation,” said Thomas O`Donnell, Fire Chief, Norristown Fire Department. “We appreciate the opportunity to connect with a new community partner that aligns with our vision and values of caring for Norristown.”

November is National Caregiver Month, which is set aside to honor the selfless men and women who care for family, friends and neighbors who need support to meet their daily living needs.

“Part of our mission is to understand and serve the needs of the borough’s neighborhoods,” said Mark Talbot, Chief of Police, Norristown Police Department. “Mercy LIFE will enrich Norristown with their all-encompassing approach to senior care. We are honored to be chosen as one of their Devoted Caregivers.”
