Montco boasts wealthiest zip code in the region

By

Probably no surprise to most of our readers, but Montgomery County is officially home to the wealthiest neighborhood _ based on median family income _ in the Philadelphia region.

Several other Montgomery County zip codes made the list as well, check them out here.

An American City Business Journal analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data shows at least two ZIP codes in (Philadelphia) are among the top 10 wealthiest in the region when considering more than a half dozen factors, like per capita income, median value of owner-occupied homes and the percentage of adults 25 or older who hold a bachelor’s degrees, among other considerations, writes Alison Burdo for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Only localities with at least 2,000 residents and a complete 2016 American Community Survey were part of the evaluation.

Gladwyne was named the wealthiest in the region based on all of the criteria.

While 19106, which includes Old City, Society Hill and a portion of Northern Liberties, and 19102, which runs from Lombard Street north to Callowhill Street along the western side of Broad Street, nabbed the sixth and seventh spot, respectively, on the ACBJ Wealth Index, these sections of Philadelphia don’t have high median household incomes to boast.

Instead, the two ZIP codes were propelled to the top of the list by other components of the wealth index formula – like the amount of adults with a bachelor’s degree.

So where exactly are the high salary earners? By zeroing in on the median household income – a tally of the total combined gross income of all household members who are 15 years or older, the data indicates the parts of Greater Philadelphia with the most affluent standard of living.
