The National Dog Show is heeling to demand as it announced that the event will extend its run at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks until at least 2022, which paves the way for a consistent boost in the economy for Montgomery County.

The National Dog Show — by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia — has been at the Expo Center since 2009, the year the 200,000-square-foot facility opened.

“The Kennel Club of Philadelphia shows have grown up with the Expo Center, and we have an affinity for the facility and its management team,” KCP President Wayne Ferguson said, writes Kenneth Hilario in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Expo has consistently grown as a local attraction, with attendance increasing about 10 percent over the last four years.

The Expo Center’s accessibility; nearby “dog-friendly” hotel accommodations; ease of moving in and out of the facility; and accessibility for NBC’s large trucks and staging, among others, make it an attractive place to keep the National Dog Show.

The show attracts 15,000 people every year, consuming on average 600 hotel room nights and generating $1 million in economic impact, according to the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board. But its presence extends beyond Montgomery County — the show, held Nov. 16-17, is televised as a Thanksgiving Day TV special on NBC, generating over 20 million viewers every year.
