Manor College’s Romero named EPAC Athlete of the Week

Manor College (1-3 Overall, 1-3 Region XIX Division III, 1-1 EPAC) freshman shortstop Jose Romero (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) has been named the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) Athlete of the Week (for the week ending April 1) as announced by the league office.

Romero hit eight-for-15 (team-leading 0.533) in four games for the week ending April 1.  He also scored seven runs, knocked in four runs, and stole four bases. Romero also paced the Blue Jays with a 0.588 on-base and 0.667 slugging percentages.

Defensively, he fielded 13 chances (seven putouts and six assists) without making an error.  Romero also contributed towards two double plays.

In Manor’s first game in school history on March 27, in game one of a doubleheader at Middlesex County, Romero went three-for-four, with four runs scored, a double, and stolen base in the 10-4 victory.  He was the first Blue Jay in school history to reach base, steal a base, and score a run. Romero also had the first hit and extra base hit in school history.

In Manor’s first home game in school history on March 29 versus Montgomery County Community College, Romero, as the starting pitcher/designated hitter, went four-for-four with two runs scored, two RBI, two stolen bases a double.  He also had the first home hit, extra base hit, and RBI in school history. Romero also was the first Blue Jay to reach base in the school’s very first home game.
