Amazon announced a new service in 37 cities – including Philadelphia – that allows packages to be delivered to the trunk of your car.

Amazon Key In-Car service allows customers with compatible vehicles to order online using Amazon Prime, according to a news release, writes Stacey Federoff  – Digital Producer, Pittsburgh Business Times in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

After downloading the Amazon Key app and connecting it with a car service account, customers can shop on Amazon.com and select the “in-car” delivery option. When the package is ready to be delivered, Amazon will send notifications with an expected four-hour delivery time window and customers can park within the delivery location range. Notifications will also be sent when the car is unlocked and relocked, then allow the customer to rate the in-car delivery.

The in-car service builds on an effort Amazon launched last fall called Amazon Key, per Reuters. That system uses a $220 combination of an internet-connected door lock and camera to allow Amazon delivery drivers to place packages inside the homes of Amazon Prime members. By contrast, the in-car delivery service is free for Prime members. It will be offered in San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Nashville, Milwaukee, Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C. and other areas.

The in-car delivery option will be available to Amazon Prime members with a compatible 2015 or newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac with an active OnStar account, or a 2015 or newer Volvo with an active Volvo On Call account, according to the release. Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) plans to support more vehicle makes and models over time.
