Pete Souza’s new book “Obama: An Intimate Portrait” provides a stunning visual highlight reel of Obama’s presidency, touching both on the historic and deeply personal moments that took place during his time in the White House, writes Sarah Begley for Time.

Obama: An Intimate Portrait is available locally at Amazon.com.

During his years as the chief official White House photographer for President Barack Obama, Souza took nearly two million pictures.

He flew with the President on the Air Force One and visited all 50 states and over 60 countries with him.

“I was there all the time,” said Souza. “I wasn’t talking to Obama all the time, but I was always in every meeting and pretty much every situation that he had as president.”

The book, which is a collection of his favorite photographs, is chronologically ordered, but there are also specific sections. One of them is Interactions. This shows President Obama interacting with different people, including fist-bumping a janitor and his meeting with Pope Francis.

“I think that’s when you really see what a person is like,” said Souza.
