A Rose Is a Rose Is a Rose … But Just How Many Will Be Delivered Today?

It’s going to be a busy day for deliveries — at least those of the aromatic variety. United Parcel Service (UPS) expected to hand over about 88 million flowers for Valentine’s Day. The findings were reported by David Mann in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Atlanta-based package shipper said that will include more than eight million pounds of blooms for U.S. consumers — 514,000 boxes, or enough to fill 64 wide-body 767s, writes David A. Mann of the Reporter, Louisville Business First.

To ensure flowers are delivered at the peak of freshness, the company is transporting shipments from growing fields in Latin American countries through the Miami International Airport — where UPS is one of the largest air cargo carriers — to the final recipient in less than two days.

Of the $19.6 billion spent on Valentine’s gifts in 2018, according to the National Retail Federation, more than 10 percent, or $2 billion, will be of the floral variety.
