It’s going to be a busy day for deliveries — at least those of the aromatic variety. United Parcel Service (UPS) expected to hand over about 88 million flowers for Valentine’s Day this year.
The Atlanta-based package shipper said that will include more than 8 million pounds of blooms for U.S. consumers — 514,000 boxes, or enough to fill 64 wide-body 767s,w rites David A. Mann of the Report
To ensure flowers are delivered at the peak of freshness, the company is transporting shipments from growing fields in Latin American countries through the Miami International Airport – where UPS is one of the largest air cargo carriers – to the final recipient in less than two days.
Of the $19.6 billion that will be spent on Valentine’s gifts this year, according to the National Retail Federation, more than 10 percent, or $2 billion, will be of the floral variety.
