Josh Shapiro honored at county democratic fall dinner

By

Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced that a coalition of 51 attorneys general reached an agreement with 12 major phone companies to fight illegal robocalls.

At the Montgomery County Democratic Committee annual Fall Dinner, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Various speakers noted how absurd it sounded, giving a 44-year-old an award that is usually reserved for those much older. It was even more head-scratching since it’s widely speculated Shapiro will take aim at a higher office. Shapiro even noted after one of the many jabs at the award in relation to his age that he has, “plenty left in the tank,” writes Katie Kohler for The Times Herald.

Perhaps, in the spirit of fall, it should have been the Montgomery County Democratic Committee Homecoming Party. From the moment Shapiro stepped through the revolving door of the Sheraton Valley Forge, it was like Springsteen popping in for a guest set at Asbury Park or Jay-Z taking a stroll through Brooklyn.

After serving as State Representative of the 153rd District from 2005 – 2012, Shapiro and Leslie Richards won the majority seats on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners for the Democrats for the first time since the Civil War.

Richards first met Shapiro at a previous MCDC Fall Dinner when he was a state representative. She said, even then, she always saw him going forward to a higher office.

“He is an extremely hard worker, a fantastic public servant and always listening to people. We are fortunate to have him serving us at the county level and now the state,” commented Richards, who is now the Pennsylvania Secretary of Transportation. “He loves what he does and it shows. He’s listening and seeing what he can do to help others who don’t have a voice at the tables he’s able to sit at.”
